RESOLUTION NO. 18192, June 10, 2013

Body
WHEREAS, Dr. Fred Grogan, president of Metropolitan Community College - Longview, will retire on June 30, 2013, after a twenty-eight year career in the MCC system; and,

WHEREAS, prior to his service with the Metropolitan Community Colleges, Dr. Grogan taught political science and was assistant dean at Lycoming College in Pennsylvania; and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Grogan joined MCC in 1985 as Dean of Instruction at Penn Valley Community College; and,

WHEREAS, in 1989, Dr. Grogan became the Dean of Institutional and Student Development at the Longview campus and in 1998 he assumed the presidency at Longview; and,

WHEREAS, during his tenure as president, Longview in 2001 became the first community college to be named a "College of the Year" by Time Magazine and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Grogan's leadership has been characterized by his commitment to excellence, strong community service, collaboration, and an open door policy for students and employees; and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Grogan holds a bachelor's degree in government from Bates College in Lewiston, ME, a master's degree in political science from Arizona State University, and a doctorate of philosophy degree in political science from the University of Missouri - Columbia; and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Grogan is looking forward to renewing his photography hobby, learning to play the guitar, and improving his gardening skills; and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Grogan is a resident of Lee's Summit, MO, and he and his wife, Julie, have two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Aaron Shore and Rachel and David Roosth, and a granddaughter, Ella Shore; now therefore,
