Body
WHEREAS, Americans place great faith in the county form of government, which traces its roots to the earliest days of the republic; and,
WHEREAS, county government truly supports the nation's citizens, serving as their voice in town squares, state houses, and the White House; and,
WHEREAS, Jackson County is proud to be among the counties proving that local solutions can be applied throughout America to solve many of the nation's most important challenges; and,
WHEREAS, Jackson County's primary concern is to assure that its citizens and their families live in a community that is safe, strong, and rich in culture; and,
WHEREAS, the arts, government, and community history go hand in hand in providing stability and well-being to all county citizens; and,
WHEREAS, community leaders, county leaders, and all citizens should take steps to recognize all that is good within Jackson County, and encourage others to experience it as well; and,
WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties has designated the week of April 18 24, 1999 as "National County Government Week" with a theme of "Counties Celebrate the Arts"; and,
WHEREAS, as part of its celebration, Jackson County will sponsor a Free Sidewalk Art Event for Kids at the City Market, Saturday April 24th, starting at 8 a.m.; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby designates the week of April 18-24, 1999, as National County Government Week in Jackson County, Missouri.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
