Body
WHEREAS, it was with great sorrow that family and friends learned of the death of Charles Ellis "Charley" Cornell; and,

WHEREAS, born on February 14, 1931, Mr. Cornell was a lifelong resident of Independence, MO; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Cornell graduated from William Chrisman High School and was a Marine veteran of the Korean War; and,

WHEREAS, he was also owner and president of Cornell Roofing and Sheet Metal Co. of Independence; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Cornell served as a city councilman, and was a member of the city's Planning Commission and the Jaycees; and,

WHEREAS, he was an advisory director of the Sunshine Center, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus with Council 3430, and a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and the Lakewood Golf Club; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Cornell is survived by his wife Lillian, daughters Christine Winans, Cynthia Knoelke, and Cathleen Jenkins, son Charles Cornell, Jr., and four grandchildren; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Cornell will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him; therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends its deepest sympathy to family and friends of Charles Ellis "Charley" Cornell, upon the occasion of his death.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
