WHEREAS, Mike Mansur was a journalist for the Kansas City Star for 25 years, reporting on local governments, specializing in watchdog investigations after years working on The Star's project desk, covering government and environmental issues; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Mansur was a Board member and President at the Society for Environmental Journalists for 18 years; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Mansur in June 2011, became the Director of Communications for the Jackson County Prosecutor where in addition to media relations, he helped the office oversee a variety of community and violence reduction programs, including the KC NoVA project aimed at reducing violent crime in Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Mansur is known as a dedicated and passionate public servant:
* Who has been on-call 24/7 - literally - to manage media relations for over 13 years;
* Who has served as the voice of the Prosecutor's Office;
* Who has received complaints, criticism, some threats, and on rare occasion, praise for the office;
* Who has been described as the Granddad of Crime Fighting;
* Who has been described as a Pessimist, but who is an Optimist about reducing crime;
* Who is described as an Advocate for data transparency and one who is informed by credible Data for decision-making;
* Who never misses a deadline, but comes awfully close;
* Whose North Star has been to improve community trust in the system and for the system to be worthy of their trust; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Mansur is a loyal husband, father and friend, an avid reader, soccer player, and coach who has had the privil...
