A RESOLUTION congratulating Northeast High School sophomore James Banhart upon becoming the school's first national weightlifting champion in the 16-and-under heavyweight division.

Body
WHEREAS, James Banhart is a member of the Northeast High School military weightlifting team; and,
WHEREAS, during competition in the 1999 USAW National Junior Weightlifting Championship, James became the school's first national weightlifting champion in the school age (16-and-under) heavyweight division; and,
WHEREAS, the competition took place in Savannah, Georgia, at Armstrong Atlantic State University on March 5-7, 1999; and,
WHEREAS, during an Olympic weightlifting tournament, the totals of two exercises, the clean and jerk, and the snatch, are combined for the final score; and,
WHEREAS, James' score on his third snatch lift was 87.5 kilograms or approximately 193 pounds, and his clean and jerk was 110 kilograms or 242 pounds, giving him the top score in each category, resulting in his victory; and,
WHEREAS, James has a 3.25 GPA at Northeast and has been in its military magnet theme for two years, attaining the rank of cadet first sergeant; and,
WHEREAS, James is a member of Boy Scout Troop 30 at Christ the King Parish, and received his Eagle Scout rank in 1998; and,
WHEREAS, James, the son of John and Lori Banhart and has a 14-year-old brother, Joseph, who also attends Northeast; and,
WHEREAS, James is to be commended for his outstanding achievement and for representing his school in his athletic endeavors; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates James Banhart upon becoming Northeast High School's first national weightlifting champion in the 16-and-under heavyweight division.
