Body
WHEREAS, following a trip to Paris, Raytown chiropractor Jacquelyn Gates attempted to find places locally which served delicious sorbets like she had discovered in France; and,

WHEREAS, finding nothing comparable, in November 1997, Dr. Gates and Teresa Poppinga opened a wholesale operation in the basement of Gates Chiropractic Center at 5300 Blue Ridge Boulevard in Raytown called Doc's Sorbet & Ice Cream Co., selling initially to country clubs, restaurants, and riverboats in the area; and,

WHEREAS, in 1998 as demand for their products grew, Dr. Gates and Ms. Poppinga decided to open a retail ice cream stand next door, geared towards young people and neighborhood residents; and,

WHEREAS, along with their fat-free and dairy-free frozen treats, Dr. Gates and Ms. Poppinga began producing a line of customized gourmet ice creams, containing14 percent butterfat, including exotic flavors, all made from natural, totally fresh ingredients; and,

WHEREAS, because of their desire to create a feeling of neighborliness, Dr. Gates and Ms. Poppinga were led to hold special events, including an ice cream eating contest, with entry fees going to benefit a charity for deaf children; and,

WHEREAS, they have also provided a live music concert, featuring the Kansas City Brass Project, treating their customers to the unique experience of ice cream and music, reminiscent of turn-of-the-century ice cream socials; and,

WHEREAS, respect and warm friendship go out to Dr. Gates and Ms. Poppinga for success in their operation; now therefore,
