Body
WHEREAS, Lily Katherine Smith, a third-grader at Prairie View Elementary School in Lee's Summit, MO, was honored as the winner of a national drawing contest conducted by FireFacts.org and sponsored by Farmers Insurance; and,
WHEREAS, Lily won the contest with her portrait of "Blaze the Fire Dog," the mascot for FireFacts.org, an interactive program designed to teach fire safety to children; and,
WHEREAS, the FireFacts organization and Farmers Insurance partnered to develop the contest to create greater awareness of fire safety and prevention activities; and,
WHEREAS, Lily's artistic efforts resulted in a $10,000.00 donation to her school to upgrade its instructional technology program and a $3,500.00 donation to the Lee's Summit Fire Department; and,
WHEREAS, Lily's drawing was selected from over 100,000 entries from across the nation and earned her a scooter as part of the award; and,
WHEREAS, Lily has been recognized twice previously as the artist of the month at her school, and has written two books, including one that was published titled A Perfect Place; and,
WHEREAS, Lily's other talents include playing the violin and she is active in her community Girl Scout troop; and,
WHEREAS, Lily has a seven-year old brother Wade, and a four-year old sister Sloan, and is supported in her creative pursuits by her proud parents, Brian and Stacy; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Lily Katherine Smith for winning a national drawing contest and extends best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.
