RESOLUTION NO. 22243, April 20, 2026

Body
WHEREAS, National Crime Victims' Rights Week is a time for communities across the nation to honor survivors of crime, remember those whose lives were taken, and recognize the individuals and organizations who work tirelessly to support victims and advance justice; and,

WHEREAS, Rosilyn Temple, founder of Kansas City Mothers in Charge (KC MIC), has become a leading voice for crime victims and a steadfast advocate for families affected by homicide in the Kansas City metropolitan area; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Temple's commitment to victim support began after the tragic loss of her son, Antonio "Pee Wee" Thompson in 2011, an experience that revealed the urgent need for compassionate community-based crisis intervention for families facing unimaginable grief; and,

WHEREAS, in 2014, she established the Kansas City chapter of Mothers in Charge, creating a model of trauma-informed, on-scene support that has since provided comfort, guidance, and advocacy to hundreds of families during their darkest moments; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Temple remains on call 24 hours a day, responding to homicide scenes to serve as a bridge between grieving families and law enforcement, ensuring that victims' loved ones are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect; and,

WHEREAS, under her leadership, KC MIC has expanded to include violence-prevention initiatives, neighborhood canvassing, the "Why Are We So Angry?" community engagement program, Hope & Healing support groups, and numerous outreach efforts that promote safety, healing, and justice; and,

WHEREAS, her unwavering dedication has earned her numerous honors, including the Kansas City Star Citizen of the Year Award, the FBI Community Leadership Award, the NAACP Carl Johnson Humanitarian Award, a...
