Body
WHEREAS, Blitz is an 8-1/2-year old K-9 police dog that was donated, at no cost to the County in 2009 by the Heart of America Kennel Club; and,
WHEREAS, Blitz's handler has resigned from his position as a deputy within the Sheriff's Office and desires to assume ownership of Blitz; and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 1139., Jackson County Code, 1984, the deputy sheriff assigned as the dog's handler may take ownership of the dog upon reimbursement to the County of its acquisition costs and the dog is relieved of duty due to age or injury; and,
WHEREAS, K-9 dogs typically have a "working career" of eight to nine years of age and, since Blitz was donated at no cost to the County, it is appropriate that his ownership be transferred to his handler; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the ownership of Blitz, the K-9 police dog within the Sheriff's Office, be and hereby is transferred to his handler John Beggs.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
