Body
WHEREAS, 494.455.1, RSMo 1994, provides that each grand and petit juror shall receive compensation at the rate of six dollars per day of actual service as a juror; and,
WHEREAS, 494.453.2 authorizes county governing bodies to increase this rate of compensation, to be satisfied out of county funds; and,
WHEREAS, in view of the important role that jury service has in our justice system, it is appropriate that the Legislature authorize a modest increase, up to ten dollars per day, to the rate of juror compensation; and,
WHEREAS, this increase is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the County; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, as follows:
Section A.  Enacting Clause.  Section 1328., Jackson County Code, 1984, is hereby enacted, to read as follows:
13.28  Grand and Petit Jurors, Compensation.
Each grand and petit juror in the Circuit Court of Jackson County shall receive ten dollars per day, for every day the juror may actually serve as such.

Effective Date:  This Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its passage by the County Executive.
