IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating Judge Jack E. Gant on his twenty-one years as a Jackson County Missouri Circuit Judge, and wishing him well on his retirement. Intro RESOLUTION # 12059, February 23, 1998 INTRODUCED BY Victor E. Callahan, Lisa White Hardwick, Fred Arbanas, John Patrick Burnett, Carl W. Bussey, Dennis Waits, Dan Tarwater, Dixie M. Flynn, and John C. Graham, County Legislators Body WHEREAS, Jack E. Gant graduated from Northeast High School in 1945 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948; and, WHEREAS, he received his B.A. degree in 1951 from the University of Missouri-Columbia and his J.D. degree in 1954 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law; and, WHEREAS, from 1956 through 1960 he worked as a part-time prosecutor, and from 1955 through 1976 as an attorney in private practice, eventually becoming a partner in the law firm of Gant, Jolley, Moran, Walsh, Hager and Gordon; and, WHEREAS, from 1966 to 1976 Judge Gant served in the Missouri General Assembly as a state senator; and, WHEREAS, Judge Gant was appointed to the Jackson County Circuit Court bench on December 17, 1976, by Governor Christopher S. Bond and served as presiding judge from 1991-1992 and juvenile judge from 1982-1983; and, WHEREAS, he has chaired the Circuit Court's Budget and Audit Committees and has been a member of the Missouri Supreme Court's Critical Issues Committee since 1990; and, WHEREAS, Judge Gant is a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Eastern Jackson County Bar Association, and The Missouri Bar; and, WHEREAS, Judge Gant has served as president of the State Trial Judges and Juvenile Judges Sections of the Missouri Judicial Conference, University of Missouri Alumni Alliance, University of Missouri-Kansas City Law Alumni Association, Community Services League, Board of the Independence Y.M.C.A., William Jewell College Athletic Booster Club, and Fort Osage High School Athletic Booster Club, and has served as a member of the executive council of the Missouri Judicial Conference, executive council of the Missouri Trial Judges' Association, Board of the Blue Elk District of the Boy Scouts of America, board of directors of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Athletic Foundation, and University of Missouri-Kansas City Intercollegiate Athletic Committee; and, WHEREAS, he has chaired the Missouri Division of Youth Services Advisory Commission, Advisory Board of the Independence Neighborhood Councils, board of directors of the Independence Queen City Baseball Association, and co-chaired the administrative board of the Buckner United Methodist Church; and, WHEREAS, Judge Gant has received may awards and honors over the course of his career including the Presidential Citation for Alumni Service from the University of Missouri System in 1998, Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Law Alumni in 1994, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Independence Neighborhood Councils in 1993, the annual President's Award from the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association in 1992, Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from the Sons of the American Revolution in 1991, Distinguished Service Award from the Independence Neighborhood Council in 1989, induction into the Fort Osage Athletic Pioneer Hall of Fame in 1988, Lester Milgram Memorial Award for Outstanding Service to Amateur Sports from the Greater Kansas City Jaycees in 1985, Appreciation Award for Community Service from the City of Independence in 1982, meritorious support award by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration in 1976, and Alumni Association State Service Award from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1974; and, WHEREAS Judge Gant and his wife, Beverly Jean, have five children, Terry, John, Marcy, Larry, and Tim, and have additionally been blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren; and, WHEREAS, Judge Gant has distinguished himself through his unparalleled service to the citizens of Jackson County, Missouri as lawyer, state senator, circuit court judge, and community civic leader; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Judge Jack E. Gant on his twenty-one years as a Jackson County Circuit Judge, and wishes him success and satisfaction in all of his future endeavors. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
