IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating Dr. William Singleton on his forty years of service to Western Baptist Bible College, and wishing him well on his retirement. Intro RESOLUTION 10329, May 16, 1994 INTRODUCED BY James D. Tindall, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, Dr. William M. Singleton, son of the late Elizabeth and George Singleton, is a native of Conway, South Carolina, having graduated from high school in Conway; and, WHEREAS, Dr. Singleton received his B.A. from Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., Master of Arts from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Western Baptist Bible College in Kansas City, MO; and, WHEREAS, Dr. Singleton and his wife Florence are the parents of three wonderful children, Elizabeth Anne, Margaret Ann, and William M., and have been blessed with one grandson, Lucian Smith; and, WHEREAS, in 1992, Dr. Singleton received the Obelisk Award from the Kansas City Globe as one of the most influential educators in the Kansas City area; and, WHEREAS, in 1993 he was recognized as one of the top fifty ministers in the area, and was given an award for outstanding community service; and, WHEREAS, on July 1, 1993, The Alumni Association of Virginia Union University, recognized Dr. Singleton by awarding him the John Marcus Ellison Honor Award for service, and Howard University, also gave Dr. Singleton an award of distinction in recognition of his participation in the civil rights movement in Washington, D.C.; and, WHEREAS, on October 5, 1933, The Office of Public Affairs of Who's Who in Worldwide Registry confirmed Dr. Singleton's inclusion in the Registry, which recognizes exceptional nominees with standards of achievement; and, WHEREAS, Dr. Singleton's affiliations include membership in the NAACP, YMCA, Baptist Ministers Union of Kansas City, Missouri, the Interdenominational Ministers of Kansas City, Ministries of New Life, and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; and, WHEREAS, at present, Dr. Singleton is the President of Western Baptist Bible College and pastor of Ward Memorial Baptist Church, Sedalia, Missouri; and, WHEREAS, The Missionary State Baptist Convention honors Dr. Singleton on his retirement by celebrating with family and friends on June 4, 1994, at 1:00 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, MO, that the Legislature congratulates Dr. William Singleton on his forty years of service to Western Baptist Bible College, and wishes him well on his retirement. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
