Intro

ORDINANCE NO. 6154, October 26, 2026

INTRODUCED BY Sean E. Smith, County Legislator

Body

WHEREAS, the Jackson County Legislature unanimously approved Ordinance 5987 in June 2025, requiring the Jackson County Assessor to postpone any reclassification of short-term rental properties from residential to commercial until a full registration and reporting system can be established County-wide; and,

WHEREAS, a County-wide registration and reporting system has not yet been established and deployed; and,

WHEREAS, the Assessor has previously expressed an intent to modify the categorization of certain residential properties which may be identified as short-term rentals; now therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED by the Jackson County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that during the 2027 reassessment no parcel categorized as residential in the 2025 reassessment may be recategorized to commercial based primarily on the use of that property as a short-term rental.
