A RESOLUTION recognizing the late Patricia A. Shaughnessy for her efforts in promoting the renovation of Union Station and urging the BiState Commission and Union Station Assistance Corporation to suitably recognize Ms. Shaughnessy in some permanent fashion at Union Station.

WHEREAS, Patricia A. Shaughnessy, who died on November 20, 1996, was a community and political activist who devoted countless hours of time to promoting the renovation of the Union Station; and,
WHEREAS, when things looked dismal for the Station, she never gave up and used her fighting spirit to continually promote its revitalization; and,
WHEREAS, always committed to whatever she attempted, Pat, a resident of the Coleman Highlands area in Kansas City, also had a vision and commitment to her neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, among those organizations receiving the benefit of her spirit were the Roanoke Protective Homes Association, Westport Citizens Action Coalition, Neighborhoods Now!, Citizens for Plaza-Westport, Greater Kansas City Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kansas City Neighborhood Alliance, and Union Station Assistance Corporation; and,
WHEREAS, her business, the Olde Theatre Architectural Salvage Co., reflected Pat's love of artifacts of the past and her desire to preserve them; and,
WHEREAS, it was this continual desire to preserve the old that motivated her in the fight to save Union Station; and,
WHEREAS, Pat's energy and passion for the Union Station project, as well as for her community, will be remembered for years to come, and is now greatly missed; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the late Patricia A. Shaughnessy for her efforts in promoting the renovation of Union Station; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature urges the BiState Commission and Union Station Assistance Corporation to suitably recognize Ms. Shaughnessy in some permanent fashion at Union Station.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
