WHEREAS, on November 2, 2010, Jean Peters-Baker was elected to the Missouri State House of Representatives for the 39th District in Kansas City, MO, and was later to be chosen by her fellow legislators as Chair of the Freshman Democratic Caucus; and,
WHEREAS, Jean campaigned on a platform of fighting for health care rights, families, environmental protection, ethics reform, and equal rights for all; and,
WHEREAS, Jean is committed to neighborhood revitalization and assisting all Missouri families through these difficult economic times; and,
WHEREAS, Jean received a Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts from Columbia College, a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law; and,
WHEREAS, Jean has served as an experienced assistant prosecuting attorney for Jackson County for over ten years, working in nearly every one of the office's units including sex crimes, community justice, domestic violence, drug crime prosecution, and family support; and,
WHEREAS, Jean has served as coordinator for the Drug Abatement Response Team (DART), where she spearheaded a multi-agency effort to close drug houses; and,
WHEREAS, Jean was honored for her efforts with the Excellence Award for Advancing COMBAT Objectives, presented by the Prosecuting Attorney, police agencies, and community advocates; and,
WHEREAS, Jean served on the board of the Women's Political Caucus and currently serves on the board of the Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life; and,
WHEREAS, Jean received the Victim Advocate of the Year Award in 2005 for championing the rights of crime victims and their families; and,
WHEREAS, Jean has also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) representative and worked for the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA); now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Jean Peters-Baker on her election to the Missouri House of Representatives for the 39th District, and wishes her much success in the future.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
