A RESOLUTION congratulating Barstow High School senior Laurelin Brink upon achieving a perfect score of 36 on the ACT college entrance exam.

Body
WHEREAS, the American College Test, taken by nearly 60 percent of America's college-bound students, comprises tests in English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science reasoning; and,
WHEREAS, each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, with a student's composite score being the average of the four test scores; and,
WHEREAS, on the December 2000 administration of the ACT, Barstow High School senior Laurelin Brink, one of 15,000 Missouri students taking the test, was one of only two students nationwide to achieve a 36, the highest possible score; and,
WHEREAS, in a letter recognizing her exceptional achievement, ACT president Richard L. Ferguson pointed out the Laurelin should have the widest possible range of future educational options for colleges and universities; and,
WHEREAS, she would like to attend Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, or Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut; and,
WHEREAS, Laurelin is a 17-year-old resident of the Cleveland Community in Cass County and the daughter of Bernard and Melanie Brink; and,
WHEREAS, she has one brother, James, who graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1997 and now lives in Providence, Rhode Island; and,
WHEREAS, Laurelin not only excels academically, she also performs in school productions and enjoys reading the likes of Herman Melville, William Shakespeare and "all the real greats of literature;" now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislator of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Laurelin Brink on upon achieving a perfect score of 36 on the American College Test.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
