RESOLUTION #15779, February 6, 2006

 

INTRODUCED BY Rhonda L. Shoemaker, County Legislator

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, for five consecutive years, the Blue Springs School District has received perfect scores on the Annual Performance Report from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE); and,

 

WHEREAS, the district was recognized as having the top adult education and literacy program in the State of Missouri in September 2005, and was named the Best Workplace for the metro area in the large business category by the Kansas City Business Journal in October 2005; and,

                     

WHEREAS, the Blue Springs Board of Education was named Board of Education of the Year in October 2005 by the Missouri School Boards Association and in 2004, Ingram's Magazine named Blue Springs School District students top performers on the ACT, with five students in the Blue Springs School District having received National Merit honors including two semifinalists and one commended scholar; and,

 

WHEREAS, Blue Springs South High School received the Presidential Environmental Youth Award for 2005 from the Environmental Protection Agency as well as the National Environmental Excellence Youth Award; and,

 

WHEREAS, Blue Springs South High School senior Kristen Walker won a national composing contest, is being commissioned to provide additional compositions, and was featured on FOX 4 News as the Reaching for Excellence Winner and Jon Robichaud, Blue Springs South High School Band Director, was honored with the 2006 John Philip Sousa Foundation Bandworld Legion of Honor Award; and,

 

WHEREAS, Blue Springs High School senior Zach Webb was named the Tech Prep Student of the Year by the Northwest Missouri Consortium, the Blue Springs High School band, under the direction of Dr. Tim Allshouse was chosen as one of five bands in the nation to perform in the Macy's Day Parade and has been named Grand Champion in competitions at the University of Kansas, the University of Missouri, Missouri State, Blue Valley High School, and Blue Valley Northwest High School, and former Blue Springs High School principal and current Assistant Superintendent Jim Finley was named Administrator of the Year by the Missouri Music Educators Association; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature commends the Blue Springs School District, and its students, staff and administrators for their numerous awards and accomplishments in their pursuit of excellence in education.

 

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
