WHEREAS, Robert W. Hemenway, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away January 5, 2014, at the age of 86; and,
WHEREAS, Bob was a labor leader and a member of Pipefitter LU #533 for over 60 years; and,
WHEREAS, Bob worked many years for U.S. Engineering Company, and retired from A.D. Jacobson Mechanical Contractors where he received the award for Best Mechanical Installation in Kansas City for 1982-83; and,
WHEREAS, after serving in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1947 with Combat Aircraft Service Unit No. 12, Bob attended Northwestern University - Utilities Engineering school on the G.I. Bill; and,
WHEREAS, Bob was an active Freemason as a member of Summit Masonic Lodge 263, the Scottish Rite, and the Ararat Shrine; and,
WHEREAS, after his retirement, Bob became active on numerous labor and political boards and committees, including serving as Vice Chairman of the Retired Coalition AFL-CIO of Greater Kansas City, serving on the Executive Board and as a delegate to the AFL-CIO of Greater Kansas City, a delegate to the Greater Kansas City Building Trades Association and former President of the Pipefitter Retirees Club; and,
WHEREAS, Bob was appointed by former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes to the Kansas City Compliance Board and former Missouri Secretary of State Bekki Cook appointed him to the State Library Advisory Board; and,
WHEREAS, Bob served on the Board of Directors for the Shepherd Center and is the 1996 recipient of the Harry S Truman Award; and,
WHEREAS, Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends, particularly his wife Thelma Hemenway, his daughters, Constance Aring and Kerry Neasing, his sons, Lance Hemenway and Jeffrey Hemenway, and his eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes the life and extraordinary personal and professional achievements of Robert W. Hemenway, and extends its deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
