Body
WHEREAS, Lee's Summit North High School was recently named a Missouri "Gold Star
School" by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; and,
WHEREAS, established in 1991, the Gold Star Schools program is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education with financial support from State Farm Insurance Companies; and,
WHEREAS, the Gold Star Schools award is a prestigious honor which recognizes schools for strong academic performance, excellent teaching, innovation in educational practices, and outstanding parent and community involvement; and,
WHEREAS, Gold Star Schools are nominated through an extensive application process which includes eight comprehensive criteria and information about every aspect of the school; and,
WHEREAS, nominations are then reviewed by a panel of teachers, principals, and counselors from across the state; and,
WHEREAS, just four high schools throughout the state of Missouri received the Missouri Gold Star Schools Award this year, and Lee's Summit North High School was one of only two high schools honored in the Kansas City metropolitan area; and,
WHEREAS, Lee's Summit North High School and other Gold Star Schools will be formally recognized on March 13, 2002, during a conference in Jefferson City, Missouri; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Lee's Summit North High School upon receiving the Missouri Gold Star Schools award for its achievements and academic excellence.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
