INTRODUCED BY Henry C. Rizzo and Theresa Garza Ruiz, County Legislators

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, Barbara Potts is one of ten inaugural inductees into the Greater Kansas City Women's Political Caucus (GKCWPC) Hall of Fame; and,

 

WHEREAS, the GKCWPC Hall of Fame will honor those women who have made a significant, lasting and personal contribution to women's political equality and who have advocated on behalf of equal opportunities and full civil rights for all; and,

 

WHEREAS, Barbara Potts is a lifelong resident of eastern Jackson County, and was the first woman Mayor of the City of Independence, serving from 1982 to 1990; and,

 

WHEREAS, through her service on boards, committees and task forces for more than 30 organizations, Barbara has helped improve the lives of thousands of area residents; and,

 

WHEREAS, Barbara is also committed to public service by holding positions as representative and chair of the Mid-America Regional Council, Director and President of the Missouri Municipal League, and President of the Missouri Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation; and,

WHEREAS, Barbara has also served as Executive Director of the Jackson County Historical Society, founder of Hope House, organizer of the Easter Jackson County Free Health Clinic, and member of the Truman Heartland Community Foundation and the Salvation Army Board of Directors; and,

 

WHEREAS, Barbara has committed her life to causes that touch the hearts of many and has helped to build stronger communities; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Barbara Potts on her induction into the Greater Kansas City Women's Political Caucus Hall of Fame.

 

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
