Body
WHEREAS, Lee's Summit R-7 School District superintendent, Dr. David McGehee, was recently honored by eSchool News, a publication network of eSchool Media Inc., as one of 10 winners of the 2011 Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards; and,
WHEREAS, this national award program seeks to honor school superintendents who best exemplify outstanding leadership and vision in using technology to advance their school district's educational goals; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. McGehee is the only winner of this honor chosen from Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, studies have shown that technology can facilitate better teaching and learning, which requires a clear vision by district leaders to implement technology effectively; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. McGehee was nominated by Dr. Paul Rutherford, a teacher at Summit Technology Academy, who praised him for his leadership in the district and emphasis on using technology as a tool to both improve student learning and staff productivity; and,
WHEREAS, under Dr. McGehee's direction, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District has seen advancements with enhanced school governance and data-driven decision-making, ongoing growth of the high-tech programs at Summit Technology Academy, the initiation of the FIRST robotic program district-wide, the addition of BoardDocs web-based meeting system, and communication efforts such as district-wide Facebook and Twitter; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. McGehee has served as Lee's Summit R-7 School District superintendent since 2006 and has worked in education since 1987; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Dr. David McGehee on his receipt of a 2011 Tech-Savvy Superintendent Award.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
