A RESOLUTION commending Anthony Mendolia for being named as the American Sons of Columbus's 2005 "Columbian of the Year".

Body

WHEREAS, every year the American Sons of Columbus honors a man of Italian descent who personifies characteristics which reflect a strong citizenship and pride and love for his heritage; and,

 

 

WHEREAS, the 2005 recipient of the Columbian of the Year award is Anthony Mendolia,  a gentleman who diligently displays an appreciation for his Italian heritage; and,

 

WHEREAS, Anthony Mendolia is the son of Vito and Josephine Mendolia and the brother of Peter Victor Mendolia; and,

 

WHEREAS, Anthony and his wife, Connie (Tutera) were married in 1987 and  are the proud parents of Anthony Michael Jr., and Cirese Josephine Mendolia; and,

 

WHEREAS, growing up in Northeast Kansas City, Anthony attended St. John the Baptist School, graduated from De La Salle High School, received his Bachelor's of Arts Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and his Master's of Arts Degree; and,

 

WHEREAS, after receiving his teaching certificate, Anthony taught at John Diemer Elementary School and then at Dorothy Moody Elementary School in the Shawnee Mission School District; and,

 

WHEREAS, during this time, he began his pursuit of success in the business world through R.H. Macy's and Co., where he became proficient as a sales manager, trainer and supervisor; and,

 

WHEREAS, after this experience, Anthony decided to return to the family business, Mendolia's Italian Sausage, a company started by his father in 1947 located at Brooklyn and Elma Street; and,

 

WHEREAS, with Anthony's knowledge of business at hand, he quickly expanded the company into a successful metropolitan business with his partner and brother, Peter Mendolia; and,

 

WHEREAS, Anthony has also been involved in a number of organizations within the Greater Kansas City community including the following: American Royal Association, Barstow School Alumni Board, Holy Cross School, The Shakespeare Festival, De La Salle Education Center, Kansas City Ballet, The Gourmet Gala, The Children's Spot, Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Once Upon a Time; and,

 

WHEREAS, the spirit and passion of Anthony Mendolia can be seen in his everyday pursuit of furthering the "positive image of the Italian-Americans"; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Anthony Mendolia on being selected as the 2005 recipient of the Columbian of the Year Award.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
