Body
WHEREAS, the Historic Northeast area is home to approximately 105,579 residents and roughly 48,065 housing units, including many single-family homes built between 1887 and 1910, reflecting a long-standing, stable, and historically significant community; and,
WHEREAS, the neighborhood features a rich array of architectural styles, including Queen Anne, Beaux-Arts, Châteauesque, Georgian Revival, Victorian Eclectic, American Four Square, Bungalow, and the Kansas City Shirtwaist style, providing a living record of the area’s historic character; and,
WHEREAS, notable historic homes, such as the William Chick Scarritt House (1888) and the row of Bellefontaine Avenue “Painted Ladies” (1889-1890), serve as landmarks preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of the neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, the Northeast Kansas City Historical Society has been instrumental in preserving, restoring, and celebrating historic homes, fostering community pride, and providing educational programs that highlight the significance of the area’s built heritage; and,
WHEREAS, the Society’s efforts support neighborhood stability, protect property values, encourage sustainable historic preservation, and contribute to the economic, cultural, and architectural vitality of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature recognizes and commends the Northeast Kansas City Historical Society for its dedication to maintaining the neighborhood’s historic character, expresses sincere appreciation for its leadership in preservation and education, and endorses continued collaboration to ensure that the historic homes of the region are retained, rehabilitated, and celebrated, reinforcing neighborhood vitality and a built-to-last legacy for future generations.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
