Body
WHEREAS, a recent amendment to section 137.055, RSMo, has changed the date by which the County is required to set its annual permanent property tax levy; and,
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the applicable County Code provision be amended to conform with state law; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed amendment is in the best interests of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Enacting Clause. Sections 540., Jackson County Code, 1984, is hereby repealed, and one new section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 540., to read as follows:
540. Levy, Permanent.
The County Legislature shall adopt and fix a permanent county property tax levy not later than [September twentieth] October 1 of each year.
540.1 Public Hearing Required Before Adoption.
Prior to adopting and fixing the permanent tax levy, the County Legislature shall hold a public hearing on the proposed permanent levy in accordance with the provisions of section 137.055, RSMo.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its signature by the County Executive.
