A RESOLUTION congratulating Laura Reeves upon being named among The Kansas City Star's Scholar-Athletes of the Year for 2002.

RESOLUTION  # 14239,    June 24, 2002

Body

WHEREAS, Laura Reeves of Grain Valley High School was named by The Kansas City Star as her school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2002; and,

 

WHEREAS, Laura ranks eleventh in her class of 99, with a 10.3 grade point average on a 11.0 scale; and,

 

WHEREAS, she has eleven varsity letters in three different sports including basketball, volleyball and softball; and,

 

WHEREAS, she was three-time volleyball all-district, all-conference, four-time basketball all conference, and three-time softball all-conference; and,

 

WHEREAS, in basketball, she made1st team all-conference three years and 1st team al-district two years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Laura, who stands 5 feet six inches tall, had a basketball record of 40 points for a single game in her sophomore year; a season total of 527 points her senior year; and a career total of 1,760 points; and,

WHEREAS, she also made 24 three-point shots in a season and has a career high of 64 three-point shots.  Her top season scoring average was 19.9 points per game; and,

 

WHEREAS, in volleyball she made 1st team all-conference for two years and 1st team all-district, also for two years; and,

 

WHEREAS, she was captain of both her volleyball and basketball teams in her junior and senior years; and,

 

WHEREAS, in softball, Laura played second base and was 1st team all-conference for three years; and,

 

WHEREAS, besides sports, Laura was on the National Honor Society and participated in two summer church mission trips, one to Chicago, Illinois, and the other to Casper, Wyoming; and,

 

WHEREAS, on these trips she helped build new homes and repair homes for those less fortunate; and,

 

WHEREAS, in addition, she is a volunteer at an Oak Grove Nursing Home and a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions; and,

 

WHEREAS, Laura is the daughter of Janet and Greg Callaghan of Oak Grove and Nick Reeves of Lone Jack; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Laura Reeves upon being named by The Kansas City Star as her school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2002.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
