A RESOLUTION  congratulating Debbie Mallett upon earning certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

RESOLUTION # 13155, March 27, 2000

 

INTRODUCED BY   Bob Spence, County Legislator

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, several years ago the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards began a new program to recognize teachers who reached a high level of teaching expertise; and,

 

WHEREAS, the recognition is in the form of a National Board Certification which is earned through compliance with rigorous standards for what teachers should know and be able to do; and,

 

WHEREAS, Debbie Mallett has become the first Lee's Summit teacher to earn this prestigious certificate, and is one of 29 nationally-certified teachers in Missouri; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Mallett earned this distinction by creating an extensive portfolio which included teacher-created thematic units, core curriculum, building a positive classroom environment, evidence of work with families, the local community, colleagues, and the professional community, submission of videotapes of her teaching, and completing four 90-minute essay exams at a one-day assessment class; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Mallett has been teaching for ten years, has been a parent educator for the Parents As Teachers program, and has received the Lee's Summit District's Expect the Best award; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Mallett and her husband Mike have two children, Katelyn, age 12 and Mark, age 15; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Mallett is to be commended for her accomplishments, for her hard work and perseverance in striving for excellence, and for representing Underwood Elementary School as an outstanding teacher; therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Debbie Mallett for receiving National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and for maintaining a standard of excellence as an educator.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
