Intro

RESOLUTION NO. 21423, October 9, 2023

INTRODUCED BY Manual Abarca IV, Jalen Anderson, Donna Peyton, Venessa Huskey, Charlie Franklin, and Jeanie Lauer, County Legislators

Body

WHEREAS, Rudy’s Tenampa Taqueria opened on September 22, 1993, at 1611 Westport Road, Kansas City, as a family restaurant serving many of the authentic Mexican recipes of Dora Garcia, the founder Rudy Garcia’s mother; and,

WHEREAS, Rudy and his wife Margie Garcia set out to share a bit of Tenampa to each and every customer that comes to their restaurant; and,

WHEREAS, after starting two smaller fast-food restaurants, the Garcia family decided to open the Tenampa Taqueria, a choice they have never regretted, and which has now become a beloved institution in the Westport area; and,

WHEREAS, Rudy, and many of his family members who work at the restaurant, foster a warm and welcoming environment, personally interacting with customers, sharing jokes, and ensuring that every visit is an enjoyable experience; and,

WHEREAS, in the early years, Margie balanced a full-time position at Hallmark Cards while working part-time at the restaurant, but eventually she transitioned to full-time involvement in the business, managing various essential functions including billing, procurement, payroll, and contributing to strategic decisions; and,

WHEREAS, the restaurant evolved from its beginnings as a buffet-style establishment to a sought-after sit-down, full-service venue, becoming a beloved fixture in the community, with patrons willingly awaiting their turn for a table; and,

WHEREAS, the recipes passed down by Rudy's mother emphasize the use of fresh, unprocessed ingredients, and showcase the heritage of Mexican cuisine; and,

WHEREAS, Rudy has successfully expanded into catering, creating a thriving business that extends beyond the restaurant's walls, with their signature sauce gracing the shelves of local grocery stores; and,

WHEREAS, the Garcia family envisions their restaurant as a legacy for generations to come, a testament to their dedication, hard work, and love for their community; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature hereby extends its congratulations to Rudy’s Tenampa Taqueria restaurant on its 30th Anniversary and extends its best to Rudy and Margie Garcia and the entire Garcia family for their unwavering dedication to quality and community.
