Body
WHEREAS, National Women in Construction Week, March 4 - 10, 2024, underscores the importance of gender diversity in the workplace, ensuring that women have equal opportunities in non-traditional careers and encourages more women to join the trades; and,
WHEREAS, with the employment of a more diverse workforce there has been greater increase in productivity, profitability, and retention; and,
WHEREAS, women and women of color make significant contributions to our communities and should receive equal and equitable opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, rising costs of higher education and workforce training make registered apprenticeship an increasingly important and affordable career training pathway for our community, allowing women to participate fully and equally in our country’s growing economy; and,
WHEREAS, apprenticeships, particularly in fields like construction where women and often women of color, have historically been excluded, offer a gateway to the middle-class; and,
WHEREAS, apprenticeship is a critical pathway for women and women of color to participate fully and equally in our community’s economic growth; and,
WHEREAS, Heartland Women in Trades dedicate themselves to educating organizing, and mentoring tradeswomen; and,
WHEREAS, Heartland Women in Trades offer knowledge and skill building empowering women to be successful in these fields; and,
WHEREAS, Heartland Women in Trades provides a critical pipeline that can aid in addressing some of our local and national workforce challenges; and,
WHEREAS, Heartland Women in Trades advocates for diversity in the culture of the construction and manufacturing industries; and,
WHEREAS, Heartland Women in Trades dedicates itself as being a community space that supports women within all facets of the construction industry and in the Heartland community; and,
WHEREAS, the County Legislature recognizes the valuable contributions of Heartland Women in Trades members: Pam Nolte, Treasurer, Plumbers #8, Emily Snyder, President, IBEW #124, Kelly McClellen, Secretary, IUOE #101, Paula Winkler, Sergeant at Arm, Laborers #264, Tina Read, Vice President, OPCMIA #518, Alise Martiny, OPCMIA #518, Bethann Evans, IUOE #101, Cindy Frank, Carpenters #945, Crystal Spratley, UA, Dianna King, IBEW #124, Monica Confer, IUOE #101, Paige Underhill, OPCMIA #518, Tina Richard, IBEW #124, Tina Shonk-Little, IUOE #101, and Whitney Chandler, OPCMIA #518; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature hereby extends its deepest appreciation and commendation to Heartland Women of Trades during the National Women in Construction Week, March 4 - 10, 2024.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
