Body

 

WHEREAS, Martin F. Conatser was elected National Commander of the 2.7 million-member American Legion on August 30, 2007, in Reno, Nevada, during the 89th National Convention of the nation's largest veterans organization; and,

 

WHEREAS, Commander Conatser, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era, joined the Illinois National Guard as an infantryman in 1970, went on active duty in 1976, and held all positions in Army recruiting from Field Recruiter to Sergeant Major, from which he retired in 1996; and,

 

WHEREAS, Commander Conatser is a 25-year member of Lincoln American Legion Post 102 in DeLand, Illinois, where he served as post commander and adjutant, served as District, Division and Department Membership Director and Commander, and, at the national level, served on the Membership and Post Activities Committee and became its chairman in 2003, and chaired the National Legislative commission during 2004 and 2005; and,

 

WHEREAS, Commander Conatser has served as Chairman of the Piatt County Veterans Day Celebration for 12 years, is a member of ANAVICUS, Past State Commanders Club, Masonic Lodge 812, AMVETS Post 4, Egyptian Past Commanders Club, Lincoln Challenge Academy Memorial Committee and the Dads Association of the University of Illinois; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Commander resides in Champaign, Illinois, with his wife, Sharon, is the father of three boys, Richard, Rick and Bryan, and has two daughters-in-law, a grandson, and two granddaughters who are also members of the American Legion Family; and,

 

WHEREAS, Commander Conatser is visiting Robert L. Clore American Legion Post 189 in Lee's Summit, Missouri, on April 9, 2008, and Tirey J. Ford American Legion Post 21 in Independence, Missouri, on April 10, 2008; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature expresses its appreciation for all the work the American Legion and Commander Conatser do on behalf of the veterans of this country, and welcomes Commander Conatser to Jackson County, Missouri.

 

 

                                                               

 

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
