Body
WHEREAS, Hubert Lau is the son of Vincent and Janine Lau of Lee's Summit; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert is graduating this May from Lee's Summit North High School as the valedictorian with an International Baccalaureate Diploma; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert has received many awards and recognitions during his academic tenure including Who's Who Among American High School Students, the Lee's Summit North High School Library Media Center Outstanding Research Award and the Lee's Summit North High School Outstanding Overall Science Student Award; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert serves as the President of the Lee's Summit North High School Honor Society, President of the Kansas City Musical Club-Student Division, and Vice-President of the Lee's Summit North High School La Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to his academic career, Hubert is also an accomplished musician, having received numerous awards from playing the piano and violin, such as the Fite Family Piano Festival Competition Winner, and the Kansas City Musical Club High School Strings Scholarship Audition Winner; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert was recently selected as one of the 2005 Missouri Scholars 100 which recognizes academic excellence and meritorious citizenship and participation by the top one hundred 2005 candidates for graduation; and,
WHEREAS, Hubert plans to attend the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in the Fall, majoring in both Chemistry and Piano Performance studies; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Hubert Lau on being selected as one of the 2005 Missouri Scholars 100 and for his academic and musical excellence.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
