A RESOLUTION congratulating Debbie Johnson of Lee's Summit on becoming the first teacher in the Raymore-Peculiar (Ray-Pec) School District to receive national certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Body

WHEREAS, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards sets standards for

what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do; and,

 

WHEREAS, this certification process is voluntary and requires a significant amount of time commitment on the teacher's part; and,

 

WHEREAS, teachers are required to take and pass four tests covering many areas and complete a portfolio which includes videotapes on their instruction techniques; and,

 

WHEREAS, on November 30, 2000, Debbie Johnson of Lee's Summit, a communications arts teacher, was one of 14 teachers to receive national certification, becoming just the 44th teacher in the State of Missouri to be so certified; and,

 

WHEREAS, Debbie has taught for 15 years, with eight years in the Ray-Pec School District where she began teaching in August 1993, after leaving the East Lynn School District; and,

 

WHEREAS, she has served on several committees at Ray-Pec including Coalition of Essential Schools, Re-learning, and Accelerated Schools, and sponsored the National Junior Honor Society; and,

 

WHEREAS, she participates in the Select Teachers as Regional Resources program, in which she travels to area districts providing professional development training to other teachers; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Debbie and her husband Lou have three daughters, Kaylee, Ashley, and  Hilary, who is following in her mother's footsteps by teaching in the Lee's Summit School District; and,

 

WHEREAS, one of Debbie's claims to fame is swimming, as she is the "Middle School Swimming Champ!"; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Debbie Johnson of Lee's Summit upon becoming the first teacher in the Raymore-Peculiar School District to receive national certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
