A RESOLUTION recognizing Central Bank of Kansas City upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

Body
WHEREAS, Central Bank of Kansas City, chartered as a state banking corporation in August 1950, opened its doors to residents and businesses of Northeast Kansas City in March 1951; and,
WHEREAS, over the years the bank has managed to keep up with the changes and growth of the historic Northeast community, from its predominantly Italian heritage in 1951 to a culturally diverse community in 2001; and,
WHEREAS, during the fall of 1998, the bank participated in a pilot project with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Brotherhood Bank of Kansas City, Kansas, to offer consumer education banking classes in the neighboring predominately minority community; and,
WHEREAS, the bank partnered with Old Northeast Neighborhood, Inc., in the construction of thirty new homes in the Northeast community, affordable to low-and-moderate income residents, and offered special low-rate home improvement loans for owner-occupied residences, enabling many Northeast homeowners to improve their properties, as a direct result of which property values have increased; and,
WHEREAS, in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000, the bank made applications and received awards under the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund's Bank Enterprise Award Program for its investment in distressed communities; and,
WHEREAS, in 1998, the bank was certified as a Community Development Financial Institution, and in that same year, the FDIC rated Central Bank of Kansas City "Outstanding" because of its commitment and investment in community development; and,
WHEREAS, the bank was recognized in the July 2000 ABA Banking Journal as one of the top performing banks with assets under one billion dollars, and was rated 10th in the nation based on a 5-year average return on equity; and,
WHEREAS, since 1995, the bank has participated in the Missouri State Treasurer's "Bank at School" program, under which Central Bank representatives visit 5th grade classes at neighborhood elementary schools, providing training in basic banking and incentives for savings programs; and,
WHEREAS, in 1995, 1996, and 1997 Central Bank of Kansas City was recognized by the Small Business Association's Office of Advocacy as one of the nation's top micro-business lenders; and,
WHEREAS, the Northeast Kansas City community takes great pride in the many programs and services offered by Central Bank of Kansas City; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Central Bank of Kansas City for 50 years of service to residents and businesses of the Northeast Kansas City community.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
