A RESOLUTION honoring Scott Burnett for his twenty-four years of dedicated service as Jackson County Legislator representing the First District.

RESOLUTION NO. 21134, December 12, 2022

 

INTRODUCED BY Charlie Franklin, County Legislator

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, Scott Burnett will be leaving his position as Jackson County Legislator representing the First District on December 31, 2022, and it is appropriate that on the occasion of his final meeting, the Legislature should honor and recognize his dedicated service to the citizens of Jackson County; and,

 

WHEREAS, Scott was elected to the Legislature in 1998 and is known for his advocacy of social justice programs; and,

 

WHEREAS, Scott received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kansas State University; and,

 

WHEREAS, Scott has been involved in government service for much of his professional life, first serving in the congressional offices of Kansas Representatives Bill Roy and Martha Keys, and in the early 1970’s as the field coordinator of the Carter/Mondale presidential campaign; and,

 

 

 

WHEREAS, from 1977 to 1980, Scott served as Special Assistant in the Carter White House, working in the areas of scheduling and advance preparations for President Jimmy Carter; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1981, following his tenure at the White House, Scott worked for PPM, Inc., an environmental remediation company, serving first as Marketing Director, then as Vice President of Operations, and later, was a partner in SGB Communications, Inc., a government relations organization; and,

 

WHEREAS, Scott’s passion is in service to the community, traveling throughout the world building homes with Habitat for Humanity, collecting furniture and household goods and driving the donation truck for Operation Breakthrough, delivering diapers for Happy Bottoms, and supporting environmental initiatives such as the Roanoke Park Conservancy, the Blue River Watershed, and Bridging the Gap; and,

 

WHEREAS, Scott’s wife Rhonda and their three children, Sam, Jake, and Anna all join in honoring Scott for his service to Jackson County; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Scott Burnett for his twenty-four years of dedicated service to the citizens of Jackson County and extends best wishes for all of his future endeavors.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
