IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION recognizing Sister Mary de La Salle McKeon for her talents as a musician and declaring March 19, 1995, as SISTER MARY DE LA SALLE MCKEON DAY in Jackson County, Missouri. Intro RESOLUTION #10618, January 30, 1995 INTRODUCED BY Dan Tarwater, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, Sister Mary de La Salle McKeon is a prominent musician whose talents as pianist, organist, and composer are known throughout the metropolitan area; and, WHEREAS, Sister McKeon earned her degrees in applied music successfully with honors from Fontbonne College (BM), University of Chicago (MM), and Eastman School of Music (PhD); and, WHEREAS, Sister McKeon has devoted 62 years of her life as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet, having entered the convent at the age of 18; and, WHEREAS, Sister McKeon has faithfully pursued her vocation as a professor of music missioned at Avila College, teaching elementary, secondary, and college level students, and keeping abreast of contemporary music; and, WHEREAS, Sister McKeon has given generously of her talents and time to assist in the liturgies of the parishes throughout the metropolitan area, keeping current with changes in the Church and church music; and, WHEREAS, Sister McKeon has been a mentor to many aspiring musicians, giving them counsel and encouragement in the pursuit of their career; and, WHEREAS, Sister McKeon founded and has conducted the annual Avila College Music Festival since 1944, a festival which has grown from 300 to more than 3,000 participants; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature proclaims March 19, 1994, as SISTER MARY DE LA SALLE MCKEON DAY in recognition of her many talents as a musician and for her contributions to students, friends, and parishes in her daily living as a dedicated religious woman and professor of music. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
