IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating Mary "Petey" Skivers upon her 40 years with the Hereford House and wishing her well on her retirement. Intro RESOLUTION # 12164, April 13, 1998 INTRODUCED BY John Patrick Burnett, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, Petey Skivers is considered an institution within an institution; and, WHEREAS, this 84-year-old woman has worked for the Hereford House Restaurant since 1958, shortly after it first opened its doors; and, WHEREAS, Petey's title as hostess correctly suits her as she happily greets patrons, making them feel comfortable as they enter the doors of this renowned Kansas City steakhouse; and, WHEREAS, those who work closely with Petey describe her as fun-loving, mischievous, friendly, and the "light" of the Hereford House; and, WHEREAS, prior to going to work for the Hereford House 40 years ago, Petey was paid $1.00 a week waitressing at the former establishment of We Sisters at 27th and Gillham; and, WHEREAS, she also worked at the Four Winds restaurant at the old Municipal Airport for about ten years; and, WHEREAS, Petey's hobbies include playing bridge and poker; and, WHEREAS, Petey has one daughter, Barbara Williams, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and, WHEREAS, Petey will retire from the Hereford House Restaurant on April 24, 1998, one day after her 84th birthday; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Mary "Petey" Skivers upon her retirement from the Hereford House Restaurant and wishes her success in all future endeavors. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
