IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION congratulating Lillie May Butler on her 100th birthday celebration. Intro RESOLUTION #10706, March 6, 1995 INTRODUCED BY John C. Graham, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, on March 8, 1995, Lillie May Butler will be celebrating her 100th birthday; and, WHEREAS, this very special lady has brought great joy and happiness to those who know and love her; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Butler was born on March 8, 1895, in Fort Worth, Texas, to John and Laura Alice Goodwin; and, WHEREAS, as a young girl, Mrs. Butler studied piano and, in 1913, she graduated from high school and then attended Oklahoma Normal College where she received a teaching certificate; and, WHEREAS, until 1914, her father owned a wood, coal, and feed store in Fort Worth, Texas, and the family moved thereafter to a farm in Crawford, Oklahoma; and, WHEREAS, as a school teacher, Mrs. Butler, for one year, taught eight grades in one room at Mount Vernon School , just south of Durham, Oklahoma, and it was at this school she met her future husband, Walter Earl Butler, who was also a teacher; and, WHEREAS, after marrying in 1916, her husband gave up his job as a teacher and became an auto mechanic, and Mrs. Butler became a housewife and taught piano to many young people in the Durham area; and, WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Butler were fortunate enough to be blessed with seven children, 15 grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; and, WHEREAS, after Mr. Butler's death in 1963, Mrs. Butler became a companion for elderly ladies, and has made her home with her youngest daughter, Earla Mae Adams, who is a resident of John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, Missouri; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Butler enjoys crocheting gifts for her family and friends and continues to do so today by using a magnifying glass; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Butler made a profession of her faith at the age of 8 and has maintained her membership in a Southern Baptist Church since then; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Butler has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit since 1972 where she is a faithful member of the Whatsover Ladies Sunday School class; and, WHEREAS, some of her past church responsibilities include pianist, Sunday School teacher, church clerk, choir member, Women's Missionary Society member, and a Junior leader; and, WHEREAS, a reception will be held in honor of Mrs. Butler on Sunday, March 12, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit, Missouri; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Lillie May Butler on the occasion of her 100th birthday and wishes her more years of bringing happiness to those who know and love her. Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
