WHEREAS, Central High School, located at 32nd & Indiana Avenue, was established in 1867 and is part of the Kansas City Public School District; and,
WHEREAS, Central High School is the oldest high school in Kansas City and was once dubbed “The largest in the West”; and,
WHEREAS, the school colors are blue and white and the athletic teams are referred to as Eagles; and,
WHEREAS, Central High School has graduated thousands of students who have contributed to our community and beyond, with some of the notable alumni being Walt Disney, William Powell, Derek Hood, Casey Stengel, Irene C. Peden, Kutt Calhoun, and Muna Lee; and,
WHEREAS, throughout the changing times and focus of the Kansas City Public School District, Central High School has undergone name changes - Central Computers Unlimited/Classical Greek Magnet High School and the current Central Academy of Excellence; and,
WHEREAS, the Central High School Class of 1974 celebrated their 50th Class Reunion with the theme “We Go a Long Way Back” and their class motto “We have done so much, so long, with so little, but now we can do anything, with nothing at all”; and,
WHEREAS, the 50th Class Reunion celebration was held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 with a weekend of events that included a Meet & Mingle event, the Reunion Dinner and Dance and a Sunday Service & Brunch; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Central High School Class of 1974 on the occasion of their 50th Class Reunion and extends best wishes for future events.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
