A RESOLUTION congratulating Dr. Cynthia Bateman, assistant principal of Lee's Summit North High School, upon being named the Missouri Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year for 2002.

Body

WHEREAS, Dr. Cynthia Bateman, assistant principal of Lee's Summit North High School was recently named Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year by  the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP); and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman was nominated for this honor by Stan Elliott, Principal of Lee's Summit North High School, who referred to Dr. Bateman as a "student-focused, goal-orientated team player who embodies the qualities of outstanding leadership and student advocacy;" and,

 

WHEREAS, she was also called fair, consistent, compassionate, and professional, and was praised for her outstanding communication skills with students, parents, and staff; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman began her career as a teacher and debate coach in the Independence School District, later served as assistant principal at William Chrisman High School, and became assistant principal at Lee's Summit North when it opened in 1995; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman has previously been named Greater Kansas City New Administrator of the Year (1994), Greater Kansas City Assistant Principal of the Year (1999), and Triple Diamond National Forensic League Coach; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman has served as secretary/treasurer and board member for the Greater Kansas City Principals' Association, and is a member of Kappa Honor Society, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman served on the Lee's Summit R-7 School District's strategic planning committee and recently served as co-chairperson of a committee charged with writing Lee's Summit North High School's successful application to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the Missouri Gold Star Schools award, resulting in Lee's Summit North winning one of only nine such awards in the state; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman served as the author and facilitator of the Lee's Summit North High School A+ School Program and has written successful grant applications for the school's Partnership-School Resource Officer and the State Incentive Grant for Technology; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman has presented workshops at both the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Student At-Risk Conference and the Show-Me Professional Development Conference, and currently serves the community as vocational coordinator for the Sunrise Rotary Club; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa, her master's degree from Central Missouri State University, and her education specialist and doctorate degree from the University of Missouri; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Bateman and her husband, Dave, have two children, Brian Bateman and Shannon Pycior and two granddaughters, Aubry, age 2, and Gabrielle, age 4 months; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Lee's Summit North High School assistant principal Dr. Cynthia Bateman upon being named Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
