IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION commending the Jackson County Parks and Recreation workers responsible for the repair of Christmas In The Park displays after the senseless vandalism of October 27, 1997. Intro RESOLUTION #11979, December 8, 1997 INTRODUCED BY Fred Arbanas, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, in September of 1988, Jackson County Parks and Recreation employees were given the challenge to create, design, and construct a holiday wonderland that would benefit both the community and local charities; and, WHEREAS, this drive-through event has been expanded every year and now includes over 175 displays, constructed with 245,000 lights; and, WHEREAS, this magical, animated wonderland receives over 150,000 visitors annually; and, WHEREAS, on October 27, 1997, the season's efforts of 2,600 man hours and nine previous years worth of tradition were destroyed by a senseless act of vandalism; and, WHEREAS, 80% of all displays were destroyed, totalling 140 animated figures and 200,000 lights; and, WHEREAS, knowing what Christmas In The Park means to the community, employees of Jackson County Parks and Recreation committed to an extraordinary effort of recreating and reconstructing 35 acres of family holiday tradition, meeting the scheduled opening date of November 26, 1997; and, WHEREAS, all maintenance divisions, including Longview, Jacomo, Landahl Park, and the Equipment Repair Shop have worked multiple shifts, displaying a multitude of talent, with 3,581 hours going into its rebuilding; and, WHEREAS, the dedicated employees of Jackson County Parks and Recreation who are to be highly commended for their extraordinary efforts are: LONGVIEW LAKE MAINTENANCE: Jason Fransen Wayne Bain Jerry Long Leonard Day & wife Harold Peters Jimmy Stewart Robert Hartsell Linda (helped with Harold Davis Michael Weddle Robert Druen drawings) Johnny Sanders George Cooley Gerg Noble John Larman Gary Greenstreet Alan Airrington Larry Cook Mike Darrah Eric Burch Mark Hite Robert Yarbourgh JACOMO LAKE MAINTENANCE: Otis Bousman David Cook Kevin DeVoss DeLayne Jackson Gary Midyett Jerry Longaker Frank Fisher Brian Falke LANDAHL PARK MAINTENANCE: Tim Welch Monica Vaughn Ed Farmer EQUIPMENT REPAIR SHOP: Dan Tweedie Earl Manns Tom Pontalion Jim Cox Harold Fann James Nelson Dave Shrout Angela Warren BE IT RESOLVED, by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby commends these Jackson County Parks and Recreation workers responsible for rebuilding Christmas in the Park...Attorney Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
