Body

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center commemorate Sexual Assault Awareness Month with its “Building Connected Communities” campaign; and,

WHEREAS, the campaign seeks to uplift the role of inclusive, equitable, and connected communities in reducing sexual abuse, assault, and harassment; and,

WHEREAS, during 2023, the Kansas City Police Department had 600 reports of sex crimes and St. Luke’s Health System provided consultations and exams to 338 patients, an increase of nearly 23% from 2022; and,

WHEREAS, during this time MOCSA served 1,268 advocacy clients and 1,116 counseling clients, working to promote the collective well-being of our communities, and encouraging individuals to show their support for survivors of sexual assault, abuse, and harassment; and,

WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a chance to raise awareness about sexual violence, and to educate communities on how to prevent sexual abuse throughout the year; and,

WHEREAS, MOCSA strives for a community free from sexual violence while reconciling the history of marginalization, underservice, and injustice in our diverse population; and,

WHEREAS, MOCSA seeks to collaborate within our region to harness the power of its client-centered, trauma-informed practices to help everyone impacted by sexual violence to lead better and safer lives; now therefore,
