Body
WHEREAS, it is with heavy hearts that the Legislature mourns the loss of Ida McBeth, a beloved member of the Jackson County community, who passed away on March 1, 2023, after an extended illness; and,
WHEREAS, Ida McBeth was a renowned jazz singer and musician who entertained audiences for over five decades with her soulful voice and impeccable style, earning her a reputation as one of the greatest vocalists of our time; and,
WHEREAS, throughout her career, Ida captivated audiences with her performances, performing at prestigious venues across the country and internationally, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland; and,
WHEREAS, Ida was not only an accomplished musician, but also a devoted educator, who shared her knowledge and passion for jazz music with generations of students, inspiring them to pursue their own musical dreams; and,
WHEREAS, Ida was a proud and active member of the Jackson County community, who generously gave her time and resources to support local causes, including the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey, and the Women's Employment Network; and,
WHEREAS, Ida will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and fans, who will remember her as a kind and compassionate person, a gifted musician, and a true legend of jazz music; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature does hereby honor the life and legacy of Ida McBeth, express our deepest condolences to her family and friends, and recognize her outstanding contributions to Jackson County and the world of music; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the community will forever remember Ida McBeth as a remarkable artist and educator whose passion and talent enriched the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing her or experiencing her music.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
