A RESOLUTION expressing the sympathy of the Legislature to the family and friends of Mary (Steinmetz) Castrop Otto, upon the occasion of her untimely death.

RESOLUTION  # 14707, August 25, 2003

 

 

INTRODUCED BY  Dan Tarwater, Henry C. Rizzo, and Fred Arbanas, County Legislators

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature extends their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mary Castrop Otto, who departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2003; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary was born in Steinmetz, MO, raised in Glasgow, MO, and lived most of her adult life in Kansas City; and,

 

WHEREAS, she was married to Thomas G. Castrop for 31 years and after his death, married A.J. Otto, who also preceded her in death; and,

 

WHEREAS, her daughter, Dorothy also preceded her in death; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary lived her life with a deep passion for community service and politics; and,

 

WHEREAS, her volunteer efforts and memberships included:  St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Seton Center, Rockhurst Circle, Ladies of Charity, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base Community Council, Community Council for Democracy, the Democratic Forum and the Southern Coalition; and,

 

WHEREAS, she served with the St. Joseph's Health Center Auxiliary since the opening of the hospital in 1977; and,

 

WHEREAS, she also served as a member of the 5th District Democratic Woman's Club since 1977; and,

 

WHEREAS, additionally, she enjoyed bridge games and having lunch with her treasured bridge group, the "Lunch Bunch;" and,

 

WHEREAS, In 1977, she received the "Dutch" Newman Award for employing the traditions and ideals of the Democratic party, and in that same year, she was recognized as Missouri Democratic Woman of the Year; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary Castrop Otto is survived by her six children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren,  two sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends its deepest sympathy to family and friends of Mary Castrop Otto upon the occasion of her death.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
