Body
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical housing agency that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world; and,
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to providing decent shelter through building and renovating houses through volunteer efforts; and,
WHEREAS, Habitat builds and renovates homes through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, with the help of the homeowner families; and,
WHEREAS, Habitat is not a giveaway program but requires the homeowners to provide a down payment, monthly mortgage payments, and hundreds of hours of their own labor - "sweat equity" - into building their own homes and the houses of others; and,
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity has expressed and interest in rehabbing the following properties:

3036 Flora 3925-27 Highland 3918 Wayne 3932 Wayne
3915-17 Highland 3931-37 Highland 3920 Wayne; and,
WHEREAS, the above properties are held by the Land Trust of Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, the Land Trust, pursuant to §141.740, RSMo, with consent of the County and at least one other appointing authority of the Land Trust, can convey the properties to Habitat for Humanity for less than two thirds the market value of the properties; and,
WHEREAS, the approval of the conveyance of these properties by Land Trust to Habitat for Humanity serves a public purpose by seeking to improve the properties and make them into affordable and livable homes; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, MO, that the Land Trust of Jackson County is hereby authorized to convey the above- described properties to Habitat for Humanity for less than two-thirds of fair market value.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
