AN ORDINANCE appropriating $23,725.00 from the fund balance of the 2009 Grant Fund in acceptance of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Task Force Equipment grant awarded by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division, and authorizing the County Executive to execute a contract with the Missouri Highway Safety Division for the expenditure of grant funds.

Body
WHEREAS, the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division has awarded the Sheriff's Office a Traffic Safety Task Force Equipment grant in the amount of $23,725.00 for the grant period of October 1, 2009, through September 30, 2010; and,
WHEREAS, these funds will be used to purchase a 2009 license plate reader (MPH 900X3) which will be installed onto a Sheriff's Office vehicle; and,
WHEREAS, this equipment will be used to identify chronic traffic violators, stolen vehicles, stolen plates, felony warrants, DWI and traffic warrants, and all other violations connected to a license plate number; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff recommends the acceptance of this grant and the execution of a contract with the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the grant funds in the appropriate spending accounts; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation from the fund balance of the 2009 Grant Fund be and hereby is made:
