Body
WHEREAS, Jackson County Parks + Rec, established in 1927 under the leadership of Presiding Judge Harry S. Truman, has grown into one of the nation’s largest and most historic county parks systems; and,
WHEREAS, the department’s long tradition of parkland development, including Hayes Park, Lake Jacomo, Longview Lake, Blue Springs Lake, and numerous recreational facilities, reflects nearly a century of commitment to expanding public access to natural and recreational spaces; and,
WHEREAS, the completion of Longview Lake in 1986, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, added thousands of acres of parkland and created one of Jackson County’s most significant regional destinations for outdoor leisure and community gathering; and,
WHEREAS, Jackson County Parks + Rec has continued to promote high-quality recreation through developments such as the Fred Arbanas Golf Course, major softball complexes, marinas, and other amenities that serve residents throughout the region; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed all-inclusive playground at Longview Lake aligns with the County’s values of inclusion, accessibility, and equitable recreational opportunities, ensuring that children of all abilities have access to safe, engaging, and thoughtfully designed outdoor play spaces; and,
WHEREAS, this project will enhance Longview Lake’s role as a welcoming, family-friendly destination and demonstrate Jackson County’s continued dedication to supporting the health, wellness, and enjoyment of its residents; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, hereby expresses its support for Jackson County Parks + Rec’s effort to develop a new all-inclusive playground at Longview Lake and recognizes the department’s ongoing dedication to serving all residents with inclusive, innovative, and community-focused recreational offering.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
