                  Kenneth T. Bacchus, Dennis Waits, Dan Tarwater, Greg Grounds,
                  and Bob Spence County Legislators
 
 
Body
WHEREAS, Lynda Callon, Director of Westside Community Action Network (CAN), passed away October 12, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lynda, the oldest of four children, moved with her family to Wichita, Kansas, from Ontario, Canada; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lynda attended college and worked for a radio station in New York City before returning to Wichita in the 1980's; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lynda moved to Kansas City in the early 1990's where she worked for a local television station and became a community activist and volunteer; and,
 
WHEREAS, in 1993, Lynda worked as a liaison to the Westside Housing Organization with the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corp, a national not-for-profit that provided grant money and assistance to organization that help revitalize older, urban neighborhoods; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lynda's passion for advocating for neighborhood and community service led to the founding of Westside CAN, where she started out serving as a surrogate mother to many of the migrant workers that loitered near Southwest Boulevard; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lynda instituted a tough-love approach that helped to encourage the men to become sober, reliable workers; and,
 
WHEREAS, Lynda's legacy is one of unconditional love for the poor that she worked with daily, inspiring service and respect throughout the community in which she was known and loved; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes the life and extraordinary personal and professional achievements of Lynda Callon, and extends its deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and colleagues.
 
 
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
