WHEREAS, the Armour Fields Homes Association, located between the Brookside and Waldo neighborhoods in Kansas City, Missouri, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, marking a century of community and neighborhood history; and,
WHEREAS, the history of Armour Fields dates back to the nineteenth century, when Kirkland and Charles Armour of the Armour Packing Company raised Hereford cattle on a 1,000-acre farm that included the land where the Armour Fields neighborhood stands today; and,
WHEREAS, the historic Armour Farmhouse, located on Pennsylvania Avenue, dates back to approximately 1852 and remains the oldest residence within Armour Fields and one of the oldest residences in the Kansas City metropolitan area; and,
WHEREAS, Armour Fields was developed in the early 1920s as a thoughtfully planned residential community designed around lasting neighborhood character, incorporating parks, schools, churches and the preservation of the historic greenery; and,
WHEREAS, today, Armour Fields is home to nearly 800 residences, many approaching or exceeding a century in age, and is distinguished by its historic residential architecture, public gardens, and carefully maintained community areas; and,
WHEREAS, for the past century, generations of Armour Fields residents have fostered a strong sense of community and pride through their continued involvement, stewardship, and dedication to preserving the character of their neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, on October 3, 2026, the Armour Fields Homes Association will commemorate its 100th anniversary with a community celebration at Romanelli Fountain Park, bringing together residents and neighbors to honor a century of history, community, and neighborhood pride; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature does hereby recognize and congratulate the Armour Fields Homes Association on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, commends the generations of residents who have contributed to a century of neighborhood pride, community involvement and stewardship and extends best wishes to the Armour Fields community as it celebrates this historic milestone and looks forward to its next century.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
