A RESOLUTION recognizing Peace Partnership during Mental Health Awareness Month for its outstanding service to the citizens of Jackson County.

Intro

RESOLUTION NO. 22278, June 1, 2026

INTRODUCED BY Donna Peyton, County Legislator

Body

WHEREAS, May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month to acknowledge the vital role of organizations that work to ensure individuals and families have access to compassionate and affordable mental health care; and,

WHEREAS, Peace Partnership, founded in 2013 by Dr. Jon Thompson, is a Missouri-based nonprofit counseling and education center serving individuals and families throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, grounded in the belief that no one should be denied quality mental health care due to financial hardship or life circumstances; and,

WHEREAS, Peace Partnership provides high-quality, affordable counseling services to children, teens, adults, couples, and families, offering support for anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, parenting concerns, family conflict, life transitions, and other difficult seasons; and,

WHEREAS, Peace Partnership works to remove barriers that often prevent people from receiving care, including cost, transportation, parent work schedules, stigma, long waitlists, and limited access, ensuring that support is accessible when it is needed most; and,

WHEREAS, Peace Partnership offers both in-office counseling and free school-based counseling services, bringing care directly to students during the school day through partnerships with local schools, supporting early intervention and emotional well-being; and,

WHEREAS, Peace Partnership’s relationship-centered approach emphasizes honest connection, trusted support, and practical tools that help individuals and families navigate real-life challenges; and,

WHEREAS, as the need for accessible mental health care continues to grow, Peace Partnership is expanding its space and services, with construction of a new facility beginning in June to increase its capacity to serve the community; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature hereby recognizes Peace Partnership for its outstanding service, dedication, and impact during Mental Health Awareness Month; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature extends its gratitude to Peace Partnership’s leadership, counselors, staff, and community partners for their continued commitment to improving the mental health and well-being of Jackson County residents.
