Body
WHEREAS, Paseo Baptist Church was founded in 1884 as Shiloh Baptist Mission; and,
WHEREAS, in 1931 Paseo Baptist Church moved to its present location facing Paseo Boulevard at the southeast corner of 25th Street; and,
WHEREAS, Paseo Baptist Church has always been committed to supporting educational opportunities and advancing opportunities for children and those in need and has built classroom spaces to support that mission; and,
WHEREAS, through its illustrative history, members of its congregation and church leadership have played keys roles in the advancement of opportunities for so many in the community who have served in a wide range of leadership roles including civic, political, educational and business; and,
WHEREAS, one hundred and forty years since its founding, the church continues to lift up and support the community and under Pastor LaRon Thompson that mission continues; and,
WHEREAS, Pastor Thompson and Paseo Baptist Church have formed partnerships with the Kansas City Public Schools, City Union Mission, Ronald McDonald House and the Angel Tree Program where annually they provide over 100 children of incarcerated parents with holiday gifts; and,
WHEREAS, the mission of service to community remains a cornerstone of their ministry; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes and commends Paseo Baptist Church for its ongoing work to lift up and advance the community.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
