Intro

RESOLUTION # 14449,   February 10, 2003

INTRODUCED BY   Bob Spence, County Legislator

Body

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District was one of just six metropolitan-area school districts to earn the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's "Distinction in Performance" Award this year; and,

WHEREAS, this award is based on a school district's annual performance reports, which are tabulated each year by the department using the same criteria as the accreditation standards for school districts; and,

WHEREAS, these criteria include Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test scores, ACT college entrance test scores, student attendance, dropout rates, and other academic performance measures; and,

WHEREAS, to qualify for this year's  "Distinction in Performance"Award, a school district had to meet 11 of 12 performance indicators including all the standards that are based on the MAP exams; and,

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District exceeded the criteria for the award, achieving a perfect score on the performance indicators; and,

WHEREAS, this is the second year that Missouri has awarded the Distinction in Performance Awards, and a total of 157 state public school districts were recognized; and,

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District and other award-winning school districts will be recognized later this year in a series of meetings across the state; and,

WHEREAS, other metropolitan area school districts earning the honor were Blue Springs, Grandview, Liberty, Park Hill and Platte County R-3; and,

WHEREAS, "The districts should be rewarded for continuing to excel in many different areas and because they are doing such a great job, they've earned the right to bypass some administrative elements, like the on-site accreditation visit," said Governor Bob Holden; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Lee's Summit R-7 School District upon its receipt of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's second annual "Distinction in Performance" Award.
